Vision

Our vision is to build a pharmacy network that supports the implementation of evidence-based practice for pharmacists and technicians.

Studies We Are Currently Recruiting Pharmacists for

LiveRx

LiveRx is focused on equitable hepatitis C care by pharmacists which includes: HCV screening, treatment, and curative treatments for Albertans. LiveRx is based on partnerships between pharmacists and community-based organizations to support Albertans.

IGNITE

This study explores the ‘invisible layer’ of change that has occurred in pharmacists’ roles and identity due to the COVID-19 pandemic and evaluates the theory that the roles professionals perform influence their professional identity.

Completed Studies

RxEACH

Pharmacists are well-positioned to identify patients with risk of cardiovascular disease and assist in their disease management. This is particularly important for vulnerable populations who have limited access to a family physician. The RxEACH study compares the change in cardiovascular risk between advanced pharmacist care and usual care groups.

RxACTION

RxACTION evaluates the effect of enhanced pharmacist care (patient identification, assessment, education, and prescribing/titration of antihypertensive medications) versus usual care on systolic blood pressure reduction in patients.

RxOUTMAP

Pharmacists are accessible primary care professionals experienced in management of urinary tract infections and antimicrobial stewardship. This study quantifies the impact of pharmacist management of patients with uncomplicated urinary tract infections. This will further demonstrate the value of pharmacists’ advanced scope of practice and remuneration.

Mission

The mission of the RxCELLENCE network is to enhance the patient care provided by pharmacists and technicians by supporting and promoting practice-based research and helping to implement cutting edge care for their patients.
Examples of cutting edge care are: improving the identification and management of hypertension, helping to eradicate hepatitis C in the community, implementing a medication sick day program for patients with diabetes, heart failure, or chronic kidney disease.

 Objectives

Our objectives are to:
  • Support implementation initiatives of evidence-based practices in patient care
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure for facilitating practice-based research for pharmacists and technicians
  • Provide learning and professional development opportunities
  • Assist pharmacists and technicians in developing health research skills and applying them and provide opportunities for active participation
  • Assist pharmacists and technicians in developing and conducting their own original research
  • Produce and publish research to support and recognize pharmacists’ and technicians’ full scope of practice and provide justification for reimbursement models
