WELCOME!

Welcome to the 12th International NPY-PYY-PP Gairdner International Symposium, to be held the 27 – 31 July, 2019 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada.

Traditionally very broad in scope, we will of course have sessions covering your favorite topics, with the latest on the roles this family of peptides plays in Stress, Energy Balance, Psychiatric disorders, Pain, Brain Development, Metabolism, Cancer, GPCR Structure and Function among others. Speakers will include Scott Sternson (Janelia Farm), Michael Cowley (Monash), Jens Brüning (Köln), Sebastien Bouret (USC/Lille), Lynn Dobrunz (Alabama) and we are especially pleased that Prof. Tomas Hökfelt from the Karolinska Institute, will join us. We are delighted that several individuals from Pharma (Kevin Grove, Birgitte Wolff and Joachim Mittendorf), plan to join us.

Becaue this has been a largely self-funded meeting for all those interested in the field, registration has been kept quite reasonable, and it includes coffee/tea/etc. breaks, lunches, receptions and the meeting dinner at the fabulous Alberta Gallery of Art. Accommodation is quite managable, with very nice student residence accommodations for trainees at around $60 CAD, and hotel rooms in the residences for about $100/ night (CAD), both right next to the venue. Accommodation information is available here. Other more conventional hotels are also listed there.

As you can see from the lineup of speakers, this is an outstanding and affordable meeting for your trainees! This is a terrific opportunity for trainees to meet one- on-one with some of the best people worldwide in the various fields represented by NPY researchers. The relaxed atmosphere offers plenty of opportunities to interact with attendees. We will have poster presentations judged by volunteers from the meeting faculty and there will be a prize or two at the end

It’s a great time of year for you to take advantage of the nearby attractions in Western Canada, including the cities of Edmonton and Calgary, the fantastic Badlands and the world-class dinosaur collection at the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller (always a huge hit with the kids!), the SPECTACULAR national parks in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta and British Columbia the amazing lakes, fruits and wines of the BC Okanagan Valley and of course Vancouver, the BC Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island.

We look forward to hosting you in Edmonton this summer!
